I stumbled across Munchery.com somehow... I can't quite remember, but I do remember thinking a $15 free dinner sounded fabulous. Munchery also delivers for a modest fee ($3.95 for SOMA), so all you do is select the 'meal' you want to order, enter your address and preferred delivery time, and your dinner will be on its way! Sounds great right?
So late last week I got an email reminder telling me my $15 free bonus was about to expire... Oh no! So I figured Monday would work to try out Munchery. So while at work, I perused the options for the day (they change daily/weekly from what I can tell), and narrowed down my choices to two dishes: The Chicken Piccata with rice or the Braised Pork with Sweet Potato Mash & Roasted Tomatoes... YUM. I finally decided on the Braised Pork dish, which was a reasonable $12.99. I also added in a Circus Cookie ($2.49) which was noted as an SF fave. It's basically a chocolate chip cookie with crushed up caramel corn. YUM.
I selected a 7 pm to 8 pm delivery window, as I figured I should be home by then to accept the delivery (they also have a cooler service, but I didn't look too much into that...). With my $15 off, my meal came to $4.43 total that I paid by credit card. I gave the driver a tip too which they said you could pay by credit card or cash.
At about 7:23 pm, I got a text message that my food would be there in 10 mins and about 6 mins later, I got a call that my food had arrived... Hooray!
The driver was nice, and the food was somewhat warm, but there were directions on the package on how to re-heat it. I popped it in the microwave, and a few minutes later, my dish was ready to eat. I took a picture of the dish below, but that was pre-heating and I know it doesn't look fantastic but trust me the taste was suburb. The salty pork meshed so well with the sweet potato mash. I swear I could taste a slight cinnamon taste too but it was so good. The roasted tomatoes were delish as well. Not mushy at all. YUM.
The cookie was also fantastic!! Soft and chewy... I would have taken a picture but it was gone in a second... :) Not really worth $2.49 in my opinion but since it was practically free, I enjoyed it.
Overall, if you live in one of the delivery areas, there's no reason not to claim your free dinner. It's definitely worth it. I think I'll keep an eye on the menu and order again if something strikes my fancy...
